About PAL Flag Football:

  • Competitive 5 on 5 flag football
  • All skill levels welcome, no tryouts to play
  • This is a co-ed league, boys and girls will play together
  • Ages 5 through 14 as of September 1st, 2011 (up to 8th grade, HS kids are not eligible)
  • Focused on Safety, Fun & Sportsmanship
  • Teams will have 8-9 players to maximize playing opportunity
  • Teams will be formed in an attempt to create competitive balance, giving each team an opportunity to win each week.  We will make every effort to honor friend / team request, however there is no guarantee this can be accomplished in every case.
  • Age divisions will be U8, U10, 12U & 14U.   There will be a min of 4 teams and max of 8 teams in each division.
  • Rules will generally follow the college intramural flag football rules.

When is PAL Flag Football?

  • Practices will begin the 2nd week of December 2011 and will occur based on the team coach’s schedule.  Teams are encouraged to hold several practices in December.
  • Beginning Monday, January 2nd, teams will practice one weekday evening per week (day based on coach availability, but most teams practice on Thursdays).
  • Each team will play seven regular season games on the following Saturdays: 1/7, 1/14, 1/21, 1/28, 2/4, 2/11, 2/18
  • PAL ‘Air it Out’ 2012 Flag Football tournament will be on Feb 25th.  All teams will be guaranteed 2 games during the tournament, but could play up to 4 games.

Where is PAL Flag Football?

  • Games will be played at Joe Pomar Park, 1600 Masters Drive
  • Saturday practices in December will be at Treaty Park, Osceola Fields or Pomar Park
  • Evening practices will be at Joe Pomar Park on Thursday.  Team coaches may change practice day and/or location depending on their availability.

How much is PAL Flag Football?

  • Registration Fees are $50 per participant, $30 for participants who qualify for free/reduced lunch

How can I volunteer to be a Head Coach or Assistant Coach?

  • Please send an email to rgober@sjso.org
  • All coaches are required to have a current St Johns County Parks and Recreation badge.  If you have a badge that was issued to you from another sport (ie..Tackle Football, Cheer, etc…) that badge will suffice.  If you do not have a badge, please send an email to rgober@sjso.org so that we can collect appropriate information to run a background check.  You will also need to have a current Coaching Certification with PAL, this includes Introduction to Youth Sports.  These coaching certifications can be completed online at no cost and take less than 30 minutes.

What about refunds?

  • No refunds will be given once practice begins December 10th.
